As they sing we see how much Devi has warmed up to Ram. There is also an odd sequence where Devi is nearly trampled by horses on the beach. I also noticed that Ram does the North Indian Slap Dance with Devi, much like Ram Jaane did with Bela.

As the song winds down, we see they are madly in love with each other. However, others have noticed this as well, and aren't as pleased about it.

Back at home, Uncle Wujek is playing a game of chess with Sunil. Uncle Wujek notices that it's getting late, and Devi has not returned home. Sunil asks if he's worried about her, but he says he's not. He thinks that Ram is a nice man, and a good match for Devi. He tells Sunil that he plans to get them married soon. This is apparently an important plot point, since the soundtrack lurches forward with a groaning sound as we get a shock close-up on Sunil looking concerned. Sunil asks if Ram knows about what happened to Rama, but Wujek doesn't see what difference that makes.

As this discussion is going on, the lovebirds come home from their exhilarating evening of dodging horses. There is an awkward moment of formality between Sunil and Ram, and Sunil takes his leave of them. After he leaves, Wujek brings up the marriage issue. Devi gets the blushy giggles and runs out of the room. Ram accepts the idea and goes home. Wujek meets Devi on the porch and they have a nice family moment. Wujek gets weepy when he realizes that once Devi is married he will be alone in the house. He begins pining for some news of Rama, one way or the other. Wujek is overcome by the moment and wanders off into the house. Devi comes inside and looks at a picture of her sister. She begins remembering a time when they were younger.

She remembers one particular time during the holiday of Holi, the Festival of Colors. One of the ways this holiday is celebrated is by throwing colored powder and water on each other and generally just having fun. Devi manages to get a couple big handfuls of red powder on Rama's face, and leads her outside where some buckets of dyed water are waiting to be thrown around. As the girls are hosing each other down, Wujek comes outside and gets several buckets dumped on him by both of them.

Later, Rama is getting dressed up. She's putting on a fancy necklace when Devi comes in. Rama asks her how it looks. Devi wants to know where she got it. Rama says she bought it earlier, but they only had one of them. Devi gets jealous and pouts, but not to worry - Rama was just jerking her chain. She already has another one for Devi.

This brings us back to the present. Devi picks up the necklace that Rama gave her and puts it on. We then see that it was part of her wedding outfit, and she's currently in the middle of the ceremony. They are in the receiving line, greeting the guests and accepting presents. Sunil makes an appearance, and has one of those "Oh yeah? Well don't forget she was my friend first!" conversations with Ram. The discussion doesn't get nasty though, and they shoo Sunil off to the food table.

Ram's lawyer comes to give them the paperwork and key to his bungalow (oh no!). As he does this, we get another set of rapid close-ups on the bungalow, the lock on the door, then the wall with the plate on it. Because you know, we'd all forgotten about that. He tells them they can celebrate their nuptials in one of the bedrooms of the nice house. At the mention of the bedroom, Sunil gets a loud hit on the soundtrack and a sharp close-up of his own.

We now go to the bedroom in question. This is very elaborately decorated with many hanging garlands of flowers and draperies. Devi comes in wearing a modern Western outfit, much to Ram's dismay. He asks her why she's coming to her wedding night dressed like an English woman.

Ram tells her he wants the kind of wife that comes to him in a veil, and is very shy. She doesn't even come in on her own, but must be pushed.

Not knowing all that much about Indian wedding traditions, I'm assuming this has something to do with what we're seeing here. There was an odd reference in Gupt about a newly married bride coming in with her eyes lowered and being shy, so it seems that's the old-fashioned way to make an entrance.
