We
cut to the police briefing Shivani and her family on what has happened. The cops
say that since Ashok had no enemies, then the motive for the attack must have
been theft. A doctor comes out of the hospital I just realized they were
standing next to, and tells her that Ashok is still knocked out, and is on
oxygen. He says one of them is permitted to stay with him overnight. Shivani
asks Didi to go home and stay with Pinky while she stays with Ashok. Shivani
goes inside to take her post next to the bed, and rests her face on Ashok's
hand.
That
night, we see Vijay entering the hospital while ominous music shivers on the
soundtrack. He enters Ashok's room, and Shivani immediately asks him to leave.
Vijay remains, and says that all of us make mistakes. The best thing to do in
those times is to learn from our mistakes so that we may improve ourselves.
Before we can start thinking that perhaps Vijay is sorry he put Ashok on life
support, he blurts out the next few nuggets of wisdom. He tells Shivani that he
has brought some papers for her to sign. She turns to look at him as he explains
that they are divorce papers so that she can be rid of Ashok. Vijay says it then
becomes a simple matter for her to marry him instead.
Shivani rises to her feet, and asks Vijay if he has gone crazy. He says that yes, his love for her has driven him mad. I'm sure he meant that as a compliment, but she tells him to get out of there this instant. Vijay isn't done pleading his case though. He tells her that Ashok doesn't value her, and he beats her. She should dump Ashok and go with him instead. She asks Vijay if he really thinks she is going to play along, and he says that she should since Ashok is worthless. Shivani says that he may be worthless to Vijay, but he is priceless to her.
Vijay just doesn't get it. He repeats his prior offer to divorce Ashok and marry him. Shivani explains that a woman marries once in life, and the bond that is created between her and her husband cannot be broken by anyone. She continues to chastise him for what he's said, while Vijay moves over to the bedside. As she talks, he casually reaches down and pulls the oxygen mask from Ashok's face. Ashok must have been in bad shape indeed, since he immediately starts to twitch. Vijay turns around with the mask still in his hands, and asks her if she's willing to marry him now. Shivani realizes what is in his hands and rushes over to the bed to put the mask back on. Vijay strolls out of the room while Shivani screams for a doctor to come and help her revive Ashok.
Out
in the corridor we see Vijay moseying out the door while a dozen nurses and
physicians run to find the trouble. Vijay goes home, and sings his childhood
song again. As he relaxes with the paper, a group of police officers walk up to
him and ask if he knows Ashok Chopra. When he says that he does, the cops inform
him that he has died. Not only that, they also add that Shivani Chopra has
accused him of killing Ashok. Vijay claims this is preposterous. He wanted Ashok
to work for him, and by dying he has cost Vijay a lot of money in delaying the
launch of his airline. The inspector says that Shivani's report states that he
was at the hospital at 11pm. Vijay thinks quickly, and says that this is
impossible since he was having dinner with Inspector Arjun Singh from 9:30 to
midnight. This whisks us over to the police station where Shivani is looking
pretty mad. She says they are lying, but the doctor's police report states Ashok
died of natural causes.
The doctor leans over and adds that the report clearly states that Ashok died due to a lack of oxygen. Shivani says that that's what she's been telling them - Vijay removed the oxygen supply. Inspector Singh speaks up at this point and tells her he has heard enough. First she says Vijay was murdered, now she's saying his oxygen was removed (I don't really see how those two things contradict each other). He tells the other cops that he was with Vijay at the time Shivani claims he was busy killing Ashok, so this is clearly all wrong. Shivani breaks down in tears after begging for justice, but we don't see her getting anywhere.
Outside, the officer conducting the investigation asks Singh why Shivani would accuse Vijay of doing this. Singh makes up an elaborate tale about how Shivani was carrying on an illicit affair with Vijay and extorting money from him to keep quiet about it. They go off to have a bite to eat and decide to forget the whole thing.
The
next day Singh pays Vijay a visit at his office. He tells Vijay that what he did
was very bad, and the only reason he's not in jail now is because he covered for
him. To put a stop to the guilt trip Vijay throws him a big wad of cash, which
does the trick. Singh decides to give Vijay some advice, and tells him to forget
about Shivani.
Vijay snarls at him and grabs his collar. He tells Singh never to say that again. Singh smirks and says that he'll never have her. Vijay picks up a small glass statue from his desk, and starts telling a story about when he was a kid, and how much he liked a similar figurine that belonged to a classmate. He asked her time and again to give it to him, but she never agreed. (During the retelling of this story, Vijay's shoulder starts doing the twitch.) He asks Singh if he knows what he did when she refused, but of course Singh doesn't know. Vijay then smashes his own figurine against the wall, and cuts his hand in the process. Since he's crazy and everything, he doesn't cry out or show pain. He merely sucks on the blood that seeps out of his injured palm.
