A jump cut takes us from the office over to Shivani's house. She walks down a hall towards us and freezes in her tracks when she hears an all-too-familiar voice coming from her living room. She looks to find Vijay sitting on a couch with Pinky, and he's promising her lots of new toys every day. He also asks that she not call him "uncle," but instead she is to call him "papa." Pinky points out that Vijay isn't her dad, but Vijay corrects her and says that from now on, he is. Shivani decides that this has gone far enough and orders Pinky to come to her side at once. Pinky complies, while Vijay casts the most disgusting, evil smile a person can make at Shivani.

Shivani takes Pinky off to someplace safe, then returns to deal with Vijay. She asks how dare he come into her house after what he's done. He just smiles and tells her that he has something for her. He produces a small jar of vermilion powder, and says that he knows she always wanted it. He offers to put in on her forehead but she slaps it out of his hand, getting it all over his own face in the process. He tells her that he thought this was priceless to her, and says that she should marry again. He says that her white sari doesn't look good on her.

Shivani tells him that this isn't just a white sari. It is a symbol of the purity of the bond between spouses. Vijay repeats his timeless request to marry him, saying that it's tough going through life alone. She tells him that she has her husband's memory and their children, and that will be enough to get through this life. Vijay says that he can't bear to see her in these widow's garments, and tells her that he loves her very much.

Shivani tells him that he's not in love, he's just overcome with lust. This comment really pushes a button on Vijay, and he becomes quite offended. He looks like he could do something rash, but then he regains his composure. He says that his love is pure, and asks that she not insult it. He asks her to say that she loves him just once, but instead she tells him she hates him, and orders him to go. He stubbornly refuses to do so, and repeats his request. She counters every request with hurtful remark to get him to leave, but this eventually backfires.

I'm not going to go into detail about what happens next. The short version is this - Vijay is incredibly cruel and physically abusive to Shivani. Some might say that I'm not doing the story justice by not describing the carnage (and I am sorry to report, there is actual carnage) but I won't do it.

Vijay stops his onslaught for a moment. He goes to pick up the phone, and dials while keeping an eye on Shivani. He speaks to the police, and gives them the current address. He says that someone is going to be killed, and fingers a large knife. He hangs up the phone and walks back over to Shivani, who cringes away from the knife. However, he isn't planning what she thinks he is. After some odd shuffling of hands, Vijay has worked the handle of the knife into Shivani's grip. He forces her hands to cut him in the face, from the forehead down to the middle of his right cheek. Just then, the police arrive. When they ask Vijay what happened, he says that Shivani Chopra tried to kill him, despite her protests that she's done nothing.

We have a merciful jump cut out of that scene, and find ourselves in the police station. Mohanlal is asking the desk clerk when and where Shivani's hearing is. He gets the info and turns to leave when he bumps into Champa who has just been tried. He was sentenced to two years for his thieving, and proceeds to torture us all with his performance for a few minutes. Admittedly, after that scene in the house, we needed something to blast that horrible imagery out of our heads. I can't think of a more fitting mental ipecac than Johnny Lever in a dress. After a few slightly humorous conversations with the other two transvestite thieves, Champa is led away by the constable.

Well it's time to get serious again. We join Shivani's trial, already in progress.
