Having
been given her welcoming beating, Shivani is led through the prison yard to her
cell block. She is deposited in a cell near the end, and is left there to weep.
One of her cellmates, Nisha, comes over to her and starts letting her know how
life is going to be there. They share the stories of why they're locked up.
Nisha's there because her mother in law and husband plotted to kill her and
spend her dowry. In the fight in which she was meant to die, she instead killed
her mother in law, and subsequently received a life sentence in jail.
Shivani tells Nisha some of the things that Vijay has done to her, and how they have affected her and Pinky. Nisha asks who is looking after Pinky now, and learns that she's living with Mohanlal and Didi until Shivani gets out of jail. Speaking of Pinky, let's see how she's doing.
Over
at Didi's place, we see Pinky sitting in Didi's lap and drinking a glass of
milk. Mohanlal is complaining about how they're spending so much money on
Pinky's needs, when he doesn't have any cash for his "hooch." He
demands to know who is supposed to pay for all of her needs, then hunches down
on his ankles next to Pinky. He stares at her, only inches from her face. She
doesn't turn to meet his gaze (neither would I, so no worries Pinky), so he
reaches out and pushes the glass of milk away from her mouth. It smashes to the
floor, and she still doesn't look at him.
While he's down there, Mohanlal notices that Pinky has a nice necklace on. When he touches it, Pinky finally looks at him. Mohanlal can't take his eyes off of the jewelry, and with a quick snap of the wrist, he breaks it from her neck and starts wrapping it up while Pinky fusses in protest.
Didi
tells him to give it back to her this instant, but Mohanlal says that he will no
longer be worried about her expense when he sells the necklace. Didi tells him
that he should be ashamed, but he tells her to shut up, or else he will beat her
up. He then turns to Pinky and tells her to stop crying or he will beat her so
badly she'll join her father in heaven. He's not done! Pinky only cries more
after he shouts at her, so Didi picks her up. Mohanlal tells them both to get
out of his house. Once they have left, he then says to himself that they have
gone and spoiled his good mood.
I have to interject here. Up till now, Mohanlal has been greedy and miserly. That's fine. He's annoying and stupid, but he hadn't done much to make you really hate him. That was until this scene. Now he's almost as bad as Vijay if you ask me. I'm looking forward to him reaping his rewards for his "generosity" in looking after little Pinky.
We cut away from yet another nightmare to a theater where Vijay and his mother are about to take in a charity dance performance. Vijay goes through the motions of "yes, yes, very nice, quite generous, etc) but it is clear that he's not into this at all. They are ushered into the main performance hall and take their seats. Moments later, the next musical performance, "Main Kohlapur Se" begins. A minor plot element surfaces here, as the featured performer does some moves that resemble the Thumb Dance from earlier, allowing Vijay to imagine that it is Shivani who is dancing for him.

Once he is comfortably hallucinating Vijay finds the performance far more interesting. In fact, he goes so far as to tell his mother that this is the girl that he wants to marry. Mom is thrilled, and seems to be more than a little relieved.
