Later that evening, the ladies are driving home and continuing to laugh about how they sure showed Vijay who was boss. Their mirth is cut short by the arrival of Vijay, who pulls up along side them in his own fancy car. He starts singing Happy Birthday to them as he swerves his car close to theirs, causing them all to shriek and nearly veer off the road. The gals pull over and call him an idiot as he zooms off down the road. He doesn't get very far before his car makes a rude coughing sound, then dies on him.

Vijay gets angry and pops the hood of the car. He proceeds to "fix" it by saying things like "bloody hell," and touching various parts of the engine. As he does so, the ladies stop their car next to his and sing a taunting song at him before laughing and driving away. Vijay is quite miffed at this outrage. He tries to calmly light a smoke, but we see the first example of his little sign that he's about to do something ... irrational and usually destructive. When he's really mad, his right shoulder twitches upwards towards his ear, and he has trouble controlling his right arm. He tosses the cigarette into the open engine compartment of the car, and it instantly bursts into flame. The fire then immediately spreads to the sides of the car, almost as if someone had pre-moistened the car with a flammable liquid. Just sayin'. Vijay calmly strides away from the conflagration while someone in the sound booth pounds on the same chord on the synthesizer for a minute.

The next day, we see Inspector Arjun Singh telling Vijay's mom what happened the night before. Apparently Vijay's little stunt not only burned his car, but also a few shops nearby. Looking at the picture up there, I'm not sure where those shops are. We can infer that Vijay either went on an arson rampage, or the screenwriter and the director weren't checking each other's work. No matter, let's move on. Vijay walks in and hears the tale of his damage. He tells Singh in a smarmy tone of voice that the car was so expensive, even if he sold it in its current state, the shopkeepers could afford new businesses. He then hands Singh a giant stack of cash, and says to give it to the shopkeepers, as well as keeping a wad for himself to "take care" of the report.

Mom doesn't like how Vijay just flaunts his wealth. Vijay says that everyone flaunts something they're proud of. He uses Inspector Singh as an example - he uses his police power to get what he wants, so they use their money power to silence people and to bribe the police. He then heads off to work, leaving Mom there to wonder where she went wrong.

At the office, Vijay looks at a tape of prospective models for some product he's hawking. They all look pretty good to me, and waltz around lazily while what sounds like "Auld Lang Syne" plays on a music box. Vijay is dissatisfied with the women that the agent has brought over, and asks him what he was thinking. Midway through his tirade, he notices a new woman on the television and he's captivated. Why, its Shivani! She's not just an airline hostess, she's also a spokesmodel for her airline. Vijay says (repeatedly) that he wants her.

The agent tries to explain that this is not part of the tape he brought - this is just a commercial on television. He also adds that the hostesses won't do spots for other companies. They only do ads for their own airline. Vijay indicates that from his experience, enough money can usually change a person's mind about such things, and demands her address.

We cut to said address, where Shivani is having some tea. Vijay introduces himself again, and includes his complete job title - sole owner of Agnihotri Industries. At this announcement, Mohanlal takes a keen interest in the conversation and moves over to eavesdrop on them. Vijay says that she's going to be his new model, but she isn't interested. They go back and forth a few times, and Vijay offers her a hefty salary for her services. Mohanlal can barely contain himself as he looks at all the money, but no amount will convince Shivani to go along with it. She eventually tells him off, calling him such epithets as "spoilt richie-rich brat," and "an impertinent idiot." She then tells him to get out, and marches off.

Mohanlal steps in to try and patch things up. He calls Shivani crazy, then offers himself up as the model Vijay could use. Vijay gives him a negative and threatening rejection, then leaves the house.

Some time later, we see Mom getting Vijay ready for a business trip to London. She hands him a folder of important documents and gives him some last-minute details before he leaves. A few cocky comments later, he's on his way to the airport.

As Vijay passes through security, he sees Shivani and her flight crew heading off towards one of the gates. Vijay goes to the ticket counter and asks which flight those people are going to be the crew for. The agent tells him the complete details of their flight, and Vijay asks to have his ticket changed to their flight. The agent can't do that, since his ticket is for another airline. Vijay calmly tears up the ticket he has and then asks to purchase a ticket for Shivani's flight.
