We
join Ashok and Mohanlal at Ashok's old house. Since he's got the new job, he's
moving up in the world. Mohanlal attempts to talk Ashok into letting him live in
this house since it's available, but Ashok doesn't go for it. Instead he takes
off for the new place to see how things are coming along. The ladies are already
there, having recently returned from a trip to the doctor's office. The shocker
here is that they weren't there for Didi's health problems. They went to have
some tests done on Shivani, and it turns out she's pregnant!
After breaking the good news, Mohanlal and Didi leave the two of them alone.
Ashok is very excited and has a tender moment where he speaks to what he hopes
is his son in the womb. (I mean he's hoping for a boy, not that he hopes the
child is his. I could have phrased that better, I suppose.) Gosh, a new house, a
new high-paying job, and a new baby on the way! Life couldn't be better for
Ashok and Shivani.
Well
things are entirely too happy around here, so it's time for the whole world to
come crashing down. We begin with Shivani noticing that Vijay is watching them
from the staircase nearby. She reacts as she always does when she sees him, and
Ashok turns to see who she's glaring at. He asks Ashok how he likes the house,
and Ashok tells him that it's perfect. Vijay offers a large envelope to Ashok to
inspect. Within are the design mock-ups for the publicity materials for the new
airline, and he wants to hear what Ashok thinks of them.
Ashok's face goes ashen as he sees what Vijay's done. Prominently featured on
the advertisement is Shivani in her airline uniform. When she hears Ashok
describe it as such, she storms over in a rage and asks how dare Vijay use her
photo without authorization. She tears up the poster and throws it down the
stairs. She orders Vijay to get out of their house while Ashok tells her to calm
down and behave herself. This was the straw that broke the camel's back for
Shivani. She tells Ashok that he is to leave the job immediately, and they are
not going to stay in the house that Vijay provided.
Ashok
and Shivani start shouting at the top of their lungs about the income situation.
Shivani says that if they have to, she will go back to work if that will make it
so that Ashok will quit the job with Vijay. This was apparently the wrong thing
to say, since this causes Ashok to haul off and slap Shivani in the face. She
stares at him in horror and anger, then says that she's leaving this house. She
marches down the steps and out of sight while Ashok calls out that if she
leaves, she's not to come back.
This doesn't stop her from going. Ashok sits on the steps and hangs his head,
while Vijay approaches him from behind. He is having the spasms in his shoulder
again, and he stutters out a question about Ashok slapping Shivani. Ashok tells
him that he's having some personal problems, and he would like Vijay to leave.
Vijay
takes a seat on a couch and repeats his question. This goes on for a few rounds,
each time the question and the "get out!" requests get louder and angrier.
Finally Ashok gives Vijay a nudge on the shoulder to help him get the picture,
but that was just the provocation Vijay needed. He belts Ashok in the face, then
proceeds to bounce his head off of the metal railing surrounding the steps.
Ashok breaks free and does a Bobby Deol-worthy near-miss punch that has no
effect on Vijay. This goes on for a bit, until Vijay gains the advantage by
pounding on Ashok with a conveniently placed sturdy stick that was sticking out
of one of the planters. Ashok finally drops to the ground, unconscious. That
doesn't stop Vijay from giving him another swift kick in the ribs for good
measure. Having smote his enemy, Vijay quietly gathers up his torn promo
materials and leaves the scene.
