Priya
tells Karan that she is convinced that Seema did not kill herself. She lists the
reasons why:
Admittedly, that does sound suspicious. Karan takes her theories and fleshes them out a bit. He says that they'll assume what Priya has come up with is correct. Then they should also look at a few other facts. First, why would Seema want to marry someone secretly? Next, Karan points out that in order for a legal marriage, the application for the marriage license must be filed 30 days in advance. He's already checked the register, and Seema's name is not on the list. Finally, no mangalsutra necklaces were found in Seema's possessions. Karan then asks her again if she is so certain that Seema didn't come there to jump off of the building.
Priya is getting upset at all of the resistance she's seeing. She tearfully points out that Seema was afraid of heights. If she really wanted to die, she could have shot herself or taken poison. She couldn't even bring herself to jump off of a diving board six feet up into a pool, let alone fling herself from a building several stories tall. With a resigned look, Karan tells her that the enquiry is closed, so he is unable to assist her in his official capacity. However he will do what he can within the limits of his personal abilities. He tells her to do a something for him. Karan tells her that she'll need to find out who Seema had met with prior to the incident.
Priya
wastes no time in getting started. We cut over to the college where she is
questioning Anjali. Anjali mentions that there was a boy that Seema was dating,
and that she seemed pretty excited about him. She did not reveal who he was
though, so Anjali can't say for certain who he was. Priya asks her if there are
any people that she thinks might have been possible candidates for a boyfriend.
Anjali tells her that she doesn't know anyone that Seema spent time with outside
of school, but as far as classmates go she and Ravi were pretty close. Anjali
says that Ravi is usually found in the library in the evenings. As Priya goes to
track him down, a camera pan reveals Vicky lurking in a window not far from
where the girls were talking.
That night at the library, Priya has somehow tracked down Ravi, despite getting no physical description or even a last name out of Anjali. Ravi tells her that he is not the one Priya is looking for. He believed that he and Seema had something going between them, but that was over when he saw her cavorting through the park with another guy.
We have a dramatic hit from the soundtrack as Priya asks Ravi who this other guy is. Ravi doesn't know his name but he did take a lot of pictures at the recent birthday party. He thinks there's a good chance that the mystery man is in one of them. He offers to bring the picture to her the next day, since it's back in his room. Priya can't wait that long, and tells him they're going to get it right now.
As
they arrive, Priya says she's coming inside with him to see the picture. Ravi
tells her that this is a men's hostel, and she would not be permitted to come
upstairs. With an air of mild frustration, Priya waits in the car as we follow
Ravi to his room. After a few scenes of Ravi shuffling through some of his
photography equipment he finally locates the picture he wanted. Sure enough,
there's Ajay/Vicky in the window in the shot. As he holds the photo up to the
light, a gloved hand grabs his mouth from behind!
As we see a little more, we learn that Vicky has also brought a rope with him, and is struggling with Ravi to subdue him. Vicky manages to get the door shut, so they have a little privacy. Vicky wrestles Ravi into submission, and forces him to sign a sheet of paper.
We cut to downstairs where Priya has grown tired of waiting. She goes up to the sleeping night watchman and asks him which room is Ravi's. Without opening his eyes, the watchman mumbles the answer. Back up in Ravi's room, we see Vicky typing something on Ravi's typewriter. A few back-and-forth cuts show Priya getting closer to the room, and then opening the door. When she looks into the room she sees that Ravi has been hung by the neck, and isn't so interested in photography anymore.
Cut
to a few minutes later, and the police have arrived. Karan is among them, and he
asks what Priya was doing there. Priya says that she was there to see the
picture of the boy she thought had murdered Seema, but instead Ravi ended up
apparently killing himself. She can't quite work out why he'd do that though.
Karan has an idea - he thinks that Ravi didn't actually have any such picture. According to the suicide note found in the room, Ravi confesses that he was Seema's boyfriend, and her killer. When Priya came to the hostel with him, he knew his secret would be revealed and he took his own life. Karan is proud of Priya for correctly figuring out Seema's killer was her boyfriend. Just to remind us that this is all completely wrong, we see Vicky lean out from behind a tree and survey the scene.
We then follow Vicky back to his house where he picks out a change of clothes, then does a soliloquy to the mirror. He speaks to the memory of Seema, and he apologizes for what he did to her, and for covering up the trail of evidence. He tells the mirror that he did what he did in order to win her father's confidence, because the purpose of his life is to destroy Madan Chopra!
