Mallika
looks at Jaidev for a moment, then rises to stand in front of Rashmi and Rahul.
She asks them if they know why she killed Jaidev. They don't say anything, so
she gives them the answer anyway. She did it because she couldn't stand the
thought of Rahul dying. However, she has just as big a problem with Rahul
belonging to anyone other than herself. That's why Rashmi's got to go. Mallika
raises her pistol and points it at Rashmi's head.
Rahul pulls Rashmi out of the way and stands in front of Mallika's gun. He says that if she feels that she has been betrayed, then she should shoot him instead. Rashmi pipes in and says that she doesn't want to see Rahul get killed either, so Mallika should kill her instead. She says that if that's the only way Mallika can be happy, then it is worth it.
Mallika
laughs at the absurdity of the scenario. She tells Rashmi that there is no one
on Earth that can love Rahul more than she does, and she'll prove it. Mallika
raises the gun to her own head, and after a few seconds of dramatic slow motion
a gunshot is heard. Mallika slowly drops out of frame while Rahul and Rashmi
look on in horror.
Rahul drops to the deck and cradles Mallika in his arms, calling out to her and asking why she's done this. Despite having a bullet put through her brain (amazing!), she still has enough awareness to reach up and touch his face one last time before going limp.
The camera switches to a boom shot, as we see the scene from overhead. Rahul holds the now inert form of Mallika to his chest as the shot pans up and shows us a nice look at the nearby coastline. The scene fades to black as the credits begin and a reprise of "Dil Ki Batein" sees us out.
