This is a catchy song. Not only is it a fun one, but we also get a little bit of plot here. During the song, we see little cutaways to see Rahul off-stage in the wings, smiling and bobbing his head to the tune. Also in attendance are Jaidev The Crazy Bodyguard and Mallika's assistant, Liza. Rahul drools over Mallika, Jaidev stalks the wings never taking his eyes off of Mallika, and Liza stares lustily at Jaidev. Everyone got all that straight?
The
concert ends with a rousing cheer from the crowd, and everyone seems to be in
high spirits. They go back to the hotel, and a horde of children are waiting in
the lobby for autographs. Mallika is good to her fans, and takes some time to
sign a few before Rahul ushers her away. A grown man comes over and asks to have
his picture taken with her, and she goes along with it. However, he puts his
hand on her shoulder to pull her close to him, and she panics. Seeing her in
"distress," Jaidev completely loses it and knocks the guy down. He kicks him
five or six times, then pulls a pistol out of his jacket and points it at the
guy, screaming that he'll kill him. Oh, yes this is done in the hotel lobby, in
front of the staff, and not to mention about fifty kids that are about twenty
feet away.
Rahul gets Jaidev more or less under control, and leads him away as the beaten man runs away as fast as he can.
Oh, and before I forget, with all the talk of music directors in this movie, one would think they had a good one working on this film. However, this scene establishes what will become a recurring problem for me. Whenever there's a tense score being played, it always ends really abruptly. This will happen every single time there's any tension.
"Oh no! He's got a gun! He's going crazy in public!"
*tense music builds to a loud fevered pitch, the string section trilling madly when suddenly -* CUT
"So, how do you like your juice?"
Um, what?
We
rejoin the party as they dine outside. Rahul comments that Jaidev seems to have
a problem controlling his temper. Mallika explains that this kind of thing
happens all the time. What she doesn't tell us is how he manages to avoid going
to prison for pulling a gun in public places with an alarming frequency. She
does go so far as to say that he's not normal. Jaidev puffs out as he considers
this to be praise. He says that in order to be a bodyguard, one must be willing
to lay down their life for someone else. Anyone that is able to make that
commitment can't be normal. Rahul smiles and says that he's happy that Jaidev
understands his duty, and that he knows Mallika is in safe hands. Safe hands,
people. He actually said that. Anyway, Rahul says that he is also willing to
risk his life for his dear Mallika, and she giggles and blushes. Jaidev has a
decidedly more negative reaction, and glares at Rahul for treading into his
territory.
We
cut away from the table to Jaidev's room. He is sitting on the edge of his bed,
and preparing a drink. He does the requisite tough guy bottle opening (teeth!)
as the sultry figure of Liza appears in the doorway behind him. She eyes her
prey hungrily, and prepares to make a case for herself. She chooses an
interesting approach to win him over though, and we'll see how it plays out.
Jaidev doesn't turn to look at her when she speaks. My paraphrasing here doesn't really do her little argument justice, but you'll get the idea. She says that she knows he's burning up with desire for someone, but at the moment that someone is being taken care of by someone else. At the mention of this, we have a jump cut to Mallika's room, where Rahul is busy invading her personal space. Mallika tells him that whenever they are together, life seems so beautiful. He tells her that this might be love! That makes Mallika so amorous that she begins passionately... hugging Rahul. Now, I've seen some awkward love scenes in these movies, but this one just looks weird.
As
Rahul and Mallika give each other lingering, torrid hugs, we cut back to
Jaidev's room where Liza gives us some more exposition. She says that she knows
Jaidev loves Mallika, but that Mallika is unaware of that fact. Liza also says
that Jaidev knows that Mallika loves Rahul, and vice versa. Liza adds fuel to
the psychosis fire by elaborating a little on the nature of the relationship
between Rahul and Mallika by pointing out that not only are they in love with
each other, but they are actually sleeping together!
Another cut to Mallika's room shows us what I am assuming is the afterglow of the previously mentioned lovin'. Rahul is lying back on the bed and Mallika has her foot on his neck. Seriously! They have more mushy talk about how great it is to be in love, and how Mallika would rather be loved than famous, since fame is fleeting. This is what we call "foreshadowing" everyone. Please take note. After the delightful repartee, they go back to more awkward nuzzlehugging.
