Sight-seeing
amounts to getting a horse-drawn carriage and running some errands. Or at least
it does in this case! As the carriage heads through the center of town we see
Rahul has arrived. He lurks next to a tree wearing a trench coat and shades, and
he spots the happy couple as they pass by. Another short musical montage plays
out as Rahul trails them through a walk in the rain, a pass through the grocery
store (seriously), and finally a store that sells nothing but timepieces.
We have a little obvious foreshadowing here, as Kiran and Sunil buy special watches for each other. They have a mini radio transmitter built-in, and at the push of one watch's button, the other will beep in Morse code. I'm thinking we'll see these again at some point. Outside, we see Rahul smirking through the window and donning his shades before walking off.
That
night we find our friends partying at the "Indian Cultural Show Masquerade
Ball." As the patrons dance to the soft rock sounds of the band we see Kiran and
Sunil merrily swaying to the beat. As the song changes from something somewhat
fast paced to a violin cover of the Richard Marx song, "Right Here Waiting" (way
to go Shiv Hari on that soundtrack!) we see that Rahul has also dropped in on
the party.
As the song builds, Rahul dons his mask and stalks out onto the dance floor. He lines himself up right behind Sunil, and raises both hands in a fairly threatening gesture. He brings them down onto Sunil's shoulders and rather clumsily grabs at him.
Sunil
turns and hits his unknown assailant as hard as he can right in the face. Rahul
goes flying across the dance floor with a pained groan, falling after hitting a
small staircase. Sunil races over to see who it was he just pasted as Rahul
removes his mask and claws his way to his feet. Rahul comments on how he was
just playing around when Sunil broke his teeth.
Sunil apologizes for overreacting (no! You think?) and asks Rahul what he's doing here. Rahul says that he's here on some work for his father. Rahul turns the question around, but "figures it out" and says that Sunil must be there to celebrate his honeymoon. Sunil chastises Rahul for missing the wedding, and says he will introduce him to his wife. Oh in case you were wondering, no security guards or police have arrived to take Sunil away for punching someone in the face in the middle of a public place during a party.
Sunil
brings Rahul over to Kiran and tells her who he is. Rahul plays it cool, but
Kiran recognizes him from college. They all go off to a little cafe to socialize
some more. Sunil asks Rahul why he didn't get married. Rahul explains that not
everyone is as lucky as Sunil is, but Kiran interrupts. She claims that Rahul is
hiding the truth, since everyone in college knew he was all googly-eyed over one
special girl, but no one ever figured out who she was.
They try to pry the name out of Rahul, but he still won't say. All he does reveal is that she's already married someone else. Kiran looks sad and says that must be the end of the story. Rahul indicates that this is not the case. When both Kiran and Sunil look at him inquisitively, he beckons them closer. They lean in, and he tells them in a hushed voice that he's thinking of killing off her husband!
Instead of shocked horror, they all think that this is a grand idea and have a good laugh. Hrmm....
