A quick cut from that ominous scene takes us to a swimming pool. It's indoors, and the place looks rather dark. I don't know if this is meant to be an "after hours" kind of thing, but there is no one else in sight. All we can see is Kiran in the pool, doing the backstroke. As she makes her way through the water, the few lights that are on in the pool suddenly switch off. Kiran stops swimming and treads water, looking around in a mildly panicked state. Taking this to be her cue to stop swimming, she makes her way to the side of the pool, and starts up the ladder. Midway up the steps, she is tugged roughly back down into the water! This happens several times before Kiran finally manages to get out of the water. As she turns to look back at the pool, Sunil surfaces and begins laughing like an idiot at her.
How she managed to miss him getting into the pool to begin with is a mystery, but perhaps his Navy training prepared him for covert ladder tugging exercises.
Kiran
tells Sunil that his brand of humor is not welcome here. He apologizes to her,
but she explains that she has been so shaken by her mysterious stalker that she
was afraid it was him that was trying to drown her. She goes on to elaborate,
saying that she's actually more afraid of being taken away from Sunil by
someone. Sunil affectionately scoffs at this idea, saying that no one could ever
come between them. The shot pans upwards, revealing Rahul watching them from a
balcony above. He gets an appropriately shocking clashing sound on the
soundtrack to emphasize his menace.
After a threatening close-up of Rahul, we cut to the Awasti house where they are celebrating Kiran's birthday. Vijay is there, regaling us with another droll speech that is made up (again) of countless cricket references.
Somehow
the family is able to tolerate his nonsense and they proceed with the
ritualistic extinguishing of the candles. Vijay shoos Poonam into the house for
something, then gives us (literally) a play-by-play of Kiran inhaling, blowing
out the candles, and feeding some of the cake to Sunil. As she does this, the
power goes out. Vijay and Sunil go inside to check the fuse box, leaving Kiran
by herself out on the patio in darkness.
Anyone that has ever seen a thriller knows what is about to happen. Sure enough, Rahul shows up behind Kiran, and covers her eyes with his hand. Kiran giggles and asks "Sunil" what he's up to. Rahul gives her a kiss on the cheek and wishes her a happy birthday, and tells her that he loves her in his signature stuttering style. Kiran soon realizes her mistake, and begins hollering for the real Sunil to come outside. As the lights come back on inside, Sunil rushes out to see what's wrong. Naturally Rahul is long gone, but Kiran swears he was just there.
Loud music begins playing upstairs, and Kiran says that it's her stalker that's singing. He's done it before! Sunil goes racing upstairs to try and find Rahul.
I should make it clear that at this point, even though I am referring to Rahul by name, Kiran doesn't know who he is. Sunil has met Rahul, but doesn't know that he's the one stalking Kiran. So, even if I say things such as "Kiran pokes Rahul in the eye," she doesn't really know who he is, other than her antagonist.
Sunil
does locate the source of the music, but it's only a stereo playing a tape. He
looks out onto the balcony outside, but doesn't see anyone around. The rest of
the group comes into the room, and they have a brief discussion about what to do
next. The general consensus is to take this matter up with the police. Sunil and
the others head back downstairs. Sunil prepares to leave, since the party is
pretty much over at this point. Kiran points out that Sunil has yet to give her
a birthday present. He tells her to close her eyes, and he puts a big sparkly
necklace on her. He gives her some mushy poetry to go along with it, and Kiran
gets all giggly and hugs Sunil passionately.
As Sunil takes his leave, the phone rings. Vijay picks it up, only to find Rahul on the line. Rahul tells them that his present for Kiran will be arriving shortly. Rahul quickly hangs up with a devious grin on his face, as Vijay tells the others what just happened.
Out
on the freeway we see Sunil driving home. A car swerves in front of him, forcing
him to veer over into oncoming traffic. He also couldn't help but notice that
his brakes seem to have been disabled! A hacked-up version of the techno theme
from Mortal Kombat begins playing as Sunil weaves in and out of traffic, just
barely missing the cars that are heading right for him. He ends up driving off
the road and smacking head-first into a tree. Naturally, since he wasn't wearing
a seatbelt and he was going approximately 35 to 45 miles per hour when he hit
the tree, he's unscathed.
As Sunil steps out of the car to inspect the damage (that is to say, look annoyed that his stupid car couldn't just go through the tree), we cut over to Rahul's room where he seems to be relaxing after his busy night of assaulting women and sabotaging cars.
