Simran
tries to look terrified at this development, but doesn't quite make it. She
instead goes over to see Sameer, who has rallied the troops for a meeting.
Everyone seems to think that someone is just trying to scare her, since she has
no enemies that she can think of. They all encourage her to go ahead and enter
the contest in spite of the threats. These are good friends.
The phone rings, and Sameer answers. Ajit is calling for Simran (how did he know she was at Sameer's place?) and he tells her that he's changed his mind. He won't kill her if she enters the contest. He's only going to ruin her face by burning her with acid instead.
Simran reacts as if this was a fate worse than death, and is reduced to repeating "Oh God!" several times. Sameer takes the phone back and gives Ajit the typical "Come out and face us in the open if you're man enough!" speech. However, Ajit says nothing. He just flips his hair again and lights up a smoke, chuckling at Sameer's display of bravado.
The
following day, Uncle Rajan is leaving for a business trip in Poona. Poona must
be a heck of a town, since that's where every business meeting in Bollywood
takes place. Anyway, the point is that he'll be gone for a few days, leaving
Simran more or less alone in the gigantic house. To illustrate her danger, we
cut immediately to that evening. Simran is sitting on a sofa with her little
dog. Ajit calls again, and comments on how rude Sameer was the other night on
the phone. He starts making little observations about what she's doing, letting
her know that he is watching her as they talk.
Before we go too much further with this scene, I have to interject. This scene might actually be creepy if it were not handled so poorly. This is simply funny, no two ways around it. This also goes a long way to show how just plain dumb Simran really is.
Ajit
makes a comment about remembering to close the front door of the house or else
strangers might come inside. We have the "skree! skree! skree!" music from the
shower scene in Psycho blaring at us as Simran realizes that she's done
just that! She drops the phone and runs downstairs (in a somewhat formal outfit
for someone just spending the night in) and closes the door. She walks the halls
looking as frightened as she can manage when suddenly the phone rings again!
Ajit compliments her on her wisdom of (sigh) closing the door, but he points out
that he's been inside the whole time. She drops the phone again and we have more
"skree! skree! skree!" music as she tries to look panicked.
Simran backs around a large pillar as we see a figure behind her light up a smoke. Ajit steps out of the shadows and confront Simran directly. She asks him who he is, and he explains that he is Ajit Khurana, the guy that's been calling her. I mean really Simran, would it be that hard to work that one out on your own?
Ajit
tells her that he's not kidding around about her staying out of the contest. He
looks menacing for a while, then heads out of the front door. He comments that
he's not seen her little dog Softie for a while, and he sure hopes he isn't in
the refrigerator. With a sly grin, he suggests that she go check that out for
herself.
Simran stares blankly at him for a moment until he shouts at her to go and look. She then rushes over and opens the main door of the fridge. No dog. She then opens the freezer door, and we get about three frames of film of a dog puppet covered with ketchup while Simran shrieks at us.
I was thinking this might be a good time for Simran to call the police. She has a name, and a face, and a trespassing charge, not to mention he killed the pet. I think she might have a case here. Instead of doing that, we cut to the now infamous Black Beauty contest where we see Simran is competing in spite of all the threats.
