Afterthoughts

There isn't a whole lot more to say about this movie that hasn't already been discussed. It was not good. The movie that it was a remake of wasn't good either, so I'm not quite sure where to point the blame for this one. I won't say that it wasn't entertaining though, as I wasn't bored for a moment. There was always something going on to either respond to with laughter or by saying "You've got to be kidding me." It wasn't a terrible movie as such, so I can't completely rip it. However I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone expecting an engaging thriller.

Amar Upadhyay (Sameer) was the best part of this movie. Allow me to clarify. This man makes the best expressions I've seen in one of these movies. He's just so into whatever the scene's about that it comes through with crystal clarity. Also, he is cheesier than Wisconsin. Combine those two elements and you have a very entertaining actor, but not always in the way he needs to be. This man would make a killing playing The Scientist in any number of B movies. I've set up a Salute to Sameer to honor and celebrate this man's constantly entertaining face.

Aditi Govitrikar (Simran) is a beautiful woman, and someone I probably owe an apology to since she bore the brunt of what is probably the harshest treatment I've levied at a performance to date. So for the record, sorry about that. However, as pretty as she is, she has a lot of work to do before her next movie. Her dancing is not quite ready and her facial expressions for anything other than that "model smile" that we've all seen are not up to par. Simply put, she's just not prepared to be the leading lady in a movie. The possibilities are there, and I'm sure with practice she can improve. However, for Dhund, she did not impress.

Apoorva Agnihotri (Kunal) was fine. He got more of the comedic bits (up until the end, that is) and was a good counterpart to the overly serious and focused Sameer. I really have no complaints with his performance, and wouldn't mind seeing him in other films.

Poor Divya Palat (Kajal). She is in Ms. Govitrikar's shadow for most of the movie, and that is really too bad. Ms. Palat is a better dancer, has a more emotive face, and is generally more likable than her co-star. I was disappointed to see her as the "secondary" lady in this movie. I was pleased that she did get a small showcase towards the end as she explored the house, as it did give her a chance to get some solo screen time. I liked her, and would like to see her in another film.

Irrfan (Ajit Khurana) was a surprisingly menacing figure. He's got a really intense stare that I could see being very unnerving if it were pointed right at you. True, he wasn't in the best of movies, but for what we're working with here I think he did a good job. Well played, sir.

Negatives:

Positives:

Here's Simran doing what I was doing for most of the movie. Not out of fright, mind you. Mostly out of the thought, "I paid how much for this DVD?" Oh, and in case you were wondering, even though the quality was low I was laughing at most of the movie. Therefore, I had to give it a good entertainment value, since I was certainly never bored! If you can enjoy a movie for being bad, you'll be fine.
