Mom pounds on the table and says she doesn't want to know who was responsible. She says that's a job for the police and she wants nothing to do with it. She wants Naina to let it go so that she isn't in danger. Naina is horrified at the notion of just letting it drop, and leaves the room.

That night, Naina is awakened by a nightmare. She decides to defy her mother's wishes and begins her own investigation. She starts by meeting with the ACP that was at her house the night of the murder. He tells her that unfortunately the police have not been able to locate the perp yet, but they do have a lead that he was at some point at the Damodar Hospital.

She heads over there to do a little snooping of her own. As she is wandering the halls, Gokul comes up from behind her and actually clips her shoulder. This spins her around so she doesn't see who did it. He calls out to one of the nurses and asks where Sunanda is.

When she hears his voice, Naina turns around and sees Gokul. She remembers him from the telegram night, and how freaky weird he was. She begins to follow him (Um? No?) as he goes off to where Sunanda is.

She eventually catches up to him as he's slapping the hell out of Sunanda. She watches from a hiding spot as they fight. Apparently he asked her for a loan, but she said she didn't have the cash. He then found new jewelry and wants to know where they came from if she doesn't have any money. She confesses to having a mangalsutra necklace made for herself.

A mangalsutra is a symbol of marriage, much like our wedding rings.

He snatches it away from her and says he's going to go sell it. She gets very upset by this and tries to get it back from him. In a completely incomprehensible moment, she yells for him not to do it, since she was going to use it when they got married. During this whole exchange, they are grappling with each other. Shoving, grabbing, pushing and all. How the hell this is going to work out is miles beyond me. He laughs and asks why he'd marry a lying, deceitful woman like her. She keeps struggling until he pins her against the wall with his arm on her throat. He literally threatens to kill her if she doesn't knock it off.

He releases her and goes away. Naina hides on a staircase as he walks off. When he's gone, Naina runs to Sunanda's side to make sure she's okay as she gasps for breath.

That night, Mom has fallen asleep on the couch. Naina lets herself in and gently wakes her up. She happily tells Mom that Gokul has been arrested. We cut to the arrest, where Gokul is being pushed around and restrained.

Jump to the courtroom where the prosecution is making its case. The prosecutor paints a very grisly picture of the events that took place that night, and asks for the death sentence to be brought on Gokul. She calls in her star witness against Gokul - Sunanda.

Gokul tells the judge that this is only a domestic quarrel between them that the police are trying to take advantage of. He hops down from his little box and runs over to where Sunanda has been moved and grabs her arms and begins apologizing for slapping her. As he's wrestling with her the bailiffs are trying to pull him off of her. Finally they get him away and back in his box.

He tells the courtroom that she wants to marry him, and that he's willing to do it right there in front of everyone. He pulls the mangalsutra out of his pocket and shows it to everyone. Why that wasn't confiscated when he was arrested is a mystery to me. (Of course, they didn't take Sahil's locket either, did they?) They finally get Gokul to quiet down and the lawyer starts asking Sunanda questions.

As the prosecutor recounts Sunanda's statement to the police for the court, Sunanda looks more and more agitated and confused. Gokul is a weeping ball of sweat on the floor of his box. Finally Sunanda says that her statement wasn't true, and that she doesn't know what she "blabbed" under the influence of Naina's persuasion. This has the effect of wrecking the whole case, and he walks.

Outside the courthouse the lawyer is saying that she will pursue other routes to get him off the streets. Gokul approaches Mom and asks her to have faith in the system. As he walks over to Naina he loudly calls out that one day the true killer will be found. However, he leans in close and quietly tells her that it was too bad she wasn't at home the day he killed Sonia, otherwise he'd have had "double fun."

Okay, he's cemented his place on the "I really hate this guy" list. Vishwanath, you've got some company.

The cop we see a lot (no name on him yet!) yanks his arm and pulls him away from Naina. She looks horrified as he is led away.
