Balli is given a chair and Veer sits in front of him. Balli doesn't waste time lording it over Veer that he now needs his help. He forces Veer to tell him the problem again, because he wants to hear it right from Veer. When Veer gets angry, Balli tells him to put aside the Officer and talk to him as a Father. Balli asks him some questions about his son. Things head downhill rapidly as Balli goes on taunting him. He's thrilled that he's got the chance to kill an innocent person while still in prison, and that it will destroy Veer's life to lose his child. He makes some really cruel remarks here about how he's going to imagine Veer's son dying a little more each day, and how it was his choice that made that happen.

As far as establishing Balli as a heartless killer and a man of pure evil, this scene does a very good job. As we'll soon see, it pushes lots of buttons on Veer, but even for the audience this is a really cruel moment.

Balli starts laughing at Veer and taunting him about how his son will soon be dead. Finally Veer snaps and starts beating Balli up. This is a big ass-kicking, and goes on for a while. However, Balli laughs his head off through the whole thing. The guards come in and finally break the two up.

Later, Veer is sitting in another room in the dungeon. Naina comes in to talk to him and see how the meeting went. She sees that Veer is not looking good, and notices the blood and wounds on his hands. She gets angry with Veer about him beating up the only man who is able to save their son's life. She starts in on the "why do you always have to be 'the cop,' why can't you ever be 'the father'?" routine, but he tells her that it was "the father" who did the hitting. He tries to explain what happened, but she's still mad. She decides to take the sympathy route, and goes to see Balli herself.

Balli is back in his cell when Naina arrives. She has brought pictures of Sahil with her to show him who he could help. She makes an impassioned speech about innocence and helping him, but he isn't interested until she mentions Balli will have to come to Bombay for the operation. At this, his eyes light up, and he agrees to help. She tearfully tells Veer that everything is "go" and they happily embrace.

Some time later, we see a big police caravan rolling along. It pulls up to the hospital's main entrance and a dozen cops hop out of various vehicles. The back of the truck opens, and a ramp is extended. Balli is rolled out in a wheelchair to which he is securely chained. He is taken to a preparation room where a few sensors and so forth are attached. However, Balli takes them all off. In the next room, one of the doctors comes in to tell the others that Balli has refused to go through with this. Veer goes next door to see what the fuss is.

Balli tells him that he wants a smoke, and drops it on the floor when Veer puts it to his lips. As Veer kneels to pick it up, Balli comments on how he likes being catered to. He takes Veer's lighter and lights his cigarette. He makes Veer tell him he's in charge, and that he wants to meet with Sahil in private. He feels he has the right to do so if he's going to save his life. He tosses Veer's lighter back, and the meeting is arranged.

I think the scenes with Balli and Sahil are well done. They overdo the whole, "What if Balli kills him!" thing, but the conversations they have are well written and performed. They show a side of the Balli character that doesn't manifest itself much else in the movie, and that's unfortunate. It's also kind of slick how Balli draws some comparisons between how Veer treats his son and how Veer acts towards Balli. Anyway, I'm rambling.

Balli takes a seat next to Sahil's bed. He introduces himself and shakes Sahil's hand. Balli picks up a toy car that is on the other side of the bed, and we're given some ominous music since it kind of looks like Balli's going for Sahil's throat. He asks Sahil if it is his car, and if that's what he plays with. Sahil says yes, and asks what Balli plays with. His reply? "Guns."
