We
begin by seeing a shot of a sunset as a voiceover explains that sometimes an
ardent faith can make the impossible come to pass. We are also clued in that
this story is one example of such a thing happening. This scene cuts to a large
explosion on a hillside. We see the sweaty faces of our heroes pass by the
camera, and it seems they are struggling to walk. After a few seconds we see we
are in a quarry, and they are blasting some of the rocks free. Karan and Arjun
are two out of hundreds of workers hauling the broken rocks out on carts.
We see the foreman of the site begin banging on a chunk of metal to signal the end of work for the day. The workers drop their carts and line up to collect their pay. In a humorous bit, we see the foreman hand each of the workers 10 rupees, then he tells them to leave some behind for his extortion money. Most of the workers leave two or three bills in his coffee can as they file through the line. This continues as we follow the man's gaze, watching the money filling the can. However, we get to a pair of men who don't put anything in the can. The foreman looks up to see Karan and Arjun smiling back at him. They ask him not to withhold money from them today, in exchange for their entire day's pay tomorrow. He asks them why, but they tell him it's a secret. He likes the idea of keeping their whole day's pay, so he tells them that it is okay. The foreman's son leans in to tell him that tomorrow is Sunday, and there is no work. He looks surprised at this news, but K&A shout goodbye and hurry off.
We
rejoin them at the shops in the market. They stop at a booth selling bangles,
and ask to see lots of different types and colors. Eventually they settle on a
set each, and look at each other mischievously. They take off running as fast as
they can in a race to get home. We get to see some nice scenery as they run,
passing through some mustard fields and over some hilly terrain.
The guys finally turn onto their street and run up to Durga, their mother. They dive onto the ground and both touch her feet at the same time. She tells them to get up, and reminds them they are not competing for her. They tell her that they have a surprise for her, and she should close her eyes. She reluctantly agrees, and they proudly hold up the bangles they've bought for her.
When
she sees what they have, she gets a mildly shocked and upset look on her face.
The guys don't seem to notice, and happily exclaim that she will wear bangles
now like the other women in the village. They tell her to hold out her arms so
they can put them on. She hides her hands behind her back and tells them that
she can't wear those at her age. Arjun tells her that he gets it - she won't
wear them until their father comes home from "the city." This sparks some
disgruntled remarks from both of the guys that they're upset their father has
been gone for so long, and they don't think he's coming back. They turn to go
back to the market and return the bangles, but Durga stops them. She tells them
that she will give the bangles to the boys' wives when they get married. She
tells them to get cleaned up, since they are going to the temple tonight.
We see them at the temple to Kali, offering up flowers and praying. As they are heading home we have our first song, "Yeh Bandhan Toh." This DVD doesn't subtitle the songs (again) so we're left to speculate what they're talking about. From the looks of it, they're happy to be together.
