The
chase continues for a few more moments until Anant reaches the edge of the crowd.
He looks around and realizes that he
has lost Angre. He throws himself against a fence post and breathes very
heavily. He manages to get out an asthma inhaler and takes a few puffs. After
his breathing returns to normal, they
head back to the vehicles and start off again. We see some close-ups
of Anant as he looks disappointed with how he couldn't keep up with his suspect,
then we have more driving shots.
Up
in the Jeep, Shekhar is thinking out loud about why the person who is taunting
them would show himself like that. After some postulating, he comes to the
conclusion that his appearance and subsequent chase were meant to be a diversion. He
realizes that the Jeep they are in was left unattended for a while, and stops to
inspect the vehicle.
He notices an explosive device has been attached to the
underside of the Jeep, and yells for everyone to get away. Either the bomb was
set to go off when the car stopped, or Shekhar has the best timing ever. As soon
as they are out of the Jeep it explodes, sending Ashwin and Shekhar flying.
As the men put themselves out and try to catch their breath, a black SUV comes within sight. They chase after it for as long as they can on foot, but it quickly speeds away. They regroup and try to figure out who might have been in the SUV. Some think it was just some civilians that were nearby, but Mahalaxmi thinks it was whomever set the bomb coming to see if they got anyone. Good thing they brought her along! Nice police work guys!
Mhatre
gets out of the van with some more bad news. Due to the harsh conditions and
explosions and whatnot, the van won't start. The men push the van through the
rapidly falling dusk until they see what looks to be a farmhouse not too far
from the road. Anant and Ashwin go up to the door and knock. After a few
moments, the door opens and they find themselves face to face
with a bald man who has the world's largest forehead. They explain that their
van won't start, but the man doesn't seem interested in helping them. Anant
tells him they wish to stay there until they can get it fixed. The bald man
tells them the master of the house is not home, and wouldn't want them staying
there. Anant isn't about to take no for an answer, so he not-so-gently pushes
his way into the house.
Another man comes into the hall and says the owner of the house won't mind. He then points at Ansari and asks if he's the agent he has heard about. He seems excited to have an infamous criminal in the house and introduces everyone. The man with the big head is Ramdas, and he is Nandan, the chef. Nandan goes to get them some water and offers the use of the phone. Anant has the men split up and secure the area.
Anant
calls HQ and speaks to Naidu. He tells him of the attack on the vehicles, and
the situation he is in. Naidu tells him he will send backup right away. When
Anant gets off the phone, Ramdas shows up and asks who is going to pay for the
call. Anant tells Mhatre to take care of it, then leaves the room. Mhatre goes
through his pockets to come up with the 30 rupees that Ramdas wants. Ramdas
makes the comment that there probably isn't any money in Mhatre's pockets since
the cops get everything for free. This gives Mahalaxmi the giggles, and she
offers to pay for the call. Ramdas tells her not to forget to collect the debt
from Mhatre later on!
After that lighthearted scene, we cut to the other officers shuttering all of the windows and setting up some crude barricades with the materials they have on hand. Anant makes a patrol of the perimeter while Ghorpade works on the van.
Once the house is locked down, it's time for another chapter in the Shekhar and Mahalaxmi drama. He is warning her of the dangers of going up to her room in the dark all by herself. He tries to scare her with tales of ghosts and other such frightening things, but she's not the timid type. She tells him she's never seen a ghost and is excited that she's finally going to get a chance. However, they won't come if there is a brave policeman there, so she asks him to leave so she can be haunted. She pushes him out into the dark hallway, where he is afraid to go back downstairs in the dark by himself. This is actually pretty funny, but I'm sure I'm not doing it justice here. Oh well!
Now
that she's alone, Mahalaxmi opens the shutters to the room and yawns. As she
turns from the window, we see shadowy figures moving on the ground outside. We
visit each of the cops at various spots around the house and each just misses
some activity outside. We get a crash zoom on Angre as he lurks in the bushes
near Ghorpade while he works on the van.
Inside, Anant is reclining in a rocking chair and thinking about the few times he's spoken to his stalker on the phone. Remember, he still doesn't know who he's dealing with. I've been using Angre's name for simplicity's sake, as far as Anant is concerned he has no idea he is.
