Dad came in and heard Ballu's plans. He went from 0 to mad in about half a second, and gave Ballu a big slap for what he was doing. Ballu made an impassioned speech about how noble his father is, yet they all were living in poverty. Ballu wanted to rise above poverty, no matter what the methods are. From that day on, he was a slave to Roshan, because he preferred being a slave to him than to poverty.

When he would be in trouble or in great need it was always Roshan that would come to his aid instead of his father. Eventually he left home completely to live among his new associates.

One night, his sister Sunita (the social worker) called Roshan's house to tell him to return Ballu to the family, or else she and a thousand men from the colony will come and burn his house down (!!). Roshan took all this with a smile, and met with her later that night. As he stared from his car, he shot Sunita in the street and drove off. Roshan went back to Ballu and told him that his sister was killed by the police. He gave Ballu a gun so that he might take his revenge. He wasted no time in doing so, and shot two cops in a dark alley.

News of his deed got out and was reported on the radio. Arti came home to find her husband had poisoned himself over the shame of having his proud heritage tainted by the crimes of his son. Not long after this event, Ballu came to see Arti. She opened the door to see it was him, then closed it without saying anything to him.

It was then that Ballu decided the world was selfish, and everyone was out for themselves. As we come out of the flashback, Ballu is accusing Ganga of being selfish as well. He tells her that she only wants to make him feel sentimental and sorry so that he'll go turn himself in to the police. He shouts at her for a while, then storms out of the building.

We cut back to Ram and Arti. She is claiming that her blind love for her son has helped to lead him on his path of evil, and begs Ram to try and save Ballu instead of just killing him. As Ram tries to comfort her, we get a flashback and song, showing the guys when they were kids in school together. Various scenes of them looking out for each other and getting into trouble are seen, while we listen to "O Ma Tujhe Salaam."

The movie feels like it's been serious too long, so we get a comic scene with Pandey lambasting someone on the phone. He goes on about how he's been talking to the Prime Minister and other important people about how to address the situation. His wife looks very impressed until she sees the phone isn't plugged into anything.

We rejoin Ganga and the Hoodlums as Ballu is working on the engine of their Jeep. Ganga has a pensive look on her face as she watches Ballu work. She tells him that since she's heard what brought him to this state, she feels there is good inside of him.

Around this point, the characters begin to make a lot of references to figures from The Ramayana. I have only begun to look at this epic, but I've gleaned some of the highlights. I won't go into it here for fear of misrepresenting it. However I do encourage you to look into it since a lot of these movies make references to it.

He tells her that he's a bad guy, through and through. She makes a remark about his dirty clothes and beard, and claims that if someone looks like an animal, then they're bound to think and act like one as well. Ballu looks hurt, and walks off.

The scene abruptly changes to Ram and Arti in his office at the station. He gives her a watch with a locator beacon built in, then the scene ends. (shrug)

Back to the Hoodlums (already!). We see the lookout pointing off to something and laughing. They call to each other and all get the giggles as they look at the New and Improved Ballu coming down the hillside. Ballu's got himself some new clothes and shaved off his beard. Looks like a shower was worked into there at some point too. Ganga gets an interested smile when she sees him coming. Ballu takes her hand and leads her up to a nearby building for some talking.

First, he asks her how he looks. She gets the cutsey giggles and tells him he looks nice. He tells her he made all these changes because of her, and that she's being a good influence on him. He has brought a present for her, and tells her to wait until he's gone to open it. Then he trots off.
