The hand belongs to Manav, and he catches her just in time. He does an excellent job of patching things up, and Shanti is back in the marrying mood in no time. Since that crisis has been averted, it's time to look in on another one. We go to an exterior shot of a palatial house, and we can hear a phone ringing. Inside, we see Nupur answering the phone. Talli immediately asks her if she's read the book, and she asks him why he's going so crazy about it. Talli gives her a big story about how this is all for his mother's sake, since she wants to see him married and her grandkids before Talli gets too old! Nupur sighs in frustration and tells him to call back in an hour. She then heads over to the couch to see what the big deal is about The Book.

We enter into what I'll call the reading montage. Nupur walks around her gigantic living room while the scene transitions a few times. Each time we jump ahead a bit, and she's closer to the end of the book. As she nears the last few pages, she sits back down, and starts seeing some very odd images in her mind. All of them are distorted, some stretched out, others are very blurry with lots of film grain. Some are upside-down, and others are in time-lapse. She sees scenes of abstract shapes, and others are recognizable locations, such as the college and some of the landmarks nearby. She looks very uncomfortable as these images pass her by, and is breathing heavily as she reaches the end. Her unpleasant visions are interrupted by the phone ringing.

This is the sequence that is taken almost directly from Ringu/The Ring. In those films, you watch the video, filled with strange and disjointed footage that is a little disturbing, then the phone rings when the tape ends. In Ringu, there is silence on the line. In The Ring, a childlike voice would whisper, "seven days." In Krishna Cottage, a phone does ring after every incident with the book, but the call is always a practical one.

Talli is calling at the appointed time, and she frantically begins to tell him what she read. It seems Amar (the one mentioned in the cottage earlier) is in this book! She says that one of the stories is about him, but before she can go on, there is a huge power surge and the phone goes out. Nupur starts hearing some odd noises in the house. A repetitive creaking sound starts up behind her, and she looks through a doorway to see a rocking chair moving on its own. The lights then cut out, and she can see a humanoid shape in shadow sitting in the chair. A faint voice can be heard humming softly to itself as Nupur tiptoes closer to the room with the chair.

With an aggressive lunge Nupur rounds the corner into the room, only to find it empty! She looks into the mirror in the room and notices another sound has begun. Off to her left, the sound of a young woman weeping can be heard. Nupur continues her investigation, and throws open the door to the bathroom. She takes a brief survey of the room, and can only hear the dripping of water. She slowly inches her way towards the shower, and the film gives us a little jump moment, as the film goes bright white for a moment and a loud chord is banged out of a piano on the soundtrack.

Nupur looks through a small gap in the curtain, and sees a human figure hunched over in the tub. With a throat constricted tightly with fear, she tries to shout out to the person to identify themselves, but her demanding order comes out almost a whimper. The figure does not answer, but merely continues sobbing in the tub. Nupur summons up her courage, and flings the curtain open. She braces herself, and reaches in to poke the shadow. As she does, the figure's head turns to look at her, and she sees it is her own face, disfigured and strange. Nupur leaps backwards away from her grotesque twin. Evil Nupur calls out in a deep and distorted voice for Nupur to help her, pleading and begging. Nupur has had enough of this, and runs out of the bathroom.

Nupur begins shutting and locking doors behind her as she tries to put distance between her and the shape. She finally reaches her room, and seals herself inside. There is a moment of quiet as Nupur sobs softly to herself, clutching her head and looking around the room in panic and despair. She backs away from the door, keeping a close watch on the handles. Once she is all of the way into the center of the room, she finally relaxes just a bit and sobs openly. She puts her back to the wall, and rests her head against it, trying to catch her breath. Unfortunately, the wall has other plans. Nupur's head is sucked into the wall, while her arms frantically try to pull her away from the wall. We don't get to see if she was successful, as the scene changes to a movie theater where all of the rest of the gang are getting ready to catch a show.
