The
evening finds Sharma and Shalini spending a quiet moment together on one of
their outdoor balconies. They are silent for a moment, until Shalini comments
that ever since they moved into the house, things sure have been interesting to
say the least. She looks nervous as she ventures forth with her latest
suggestion. She looks at Sharma and says that Narayan had been saying that it
was a bad omen for a cat to die in the house, but she trails off there. Sharma
tosses his cigarette away angrily and tells her that's nonsense. He then goes
back into the house without another word.
A cut to darkness follows, and we can hear someone in the room crying softly. A door opens, and light falls onto the source of the sounds - Mini is sitting on the floor and weeping into her hands. Sharma asks her why she's sitting in the dark, then flips the light on and takes a seat across from her. He tells her that he understands that she's grieving over Rashmi's death, but he strongly suggests that she try to get back into her daily life. He thinks the best thing she can do right now is to go to school (oops I mean College) the next day and mingle with her friends.
Mini
doesn't seem very responsive to him, but he thinks he's done a good job of
parenting for the night. He tells her to get some rest, and leaves the room. The
focus of the shot changes from Mini to the closet door behind her which is open
a crack. The view changes to inside the closet, looking out at Mini. The doors
open wide, and the shot moves closer to Mini's face. She turns to look at us,
and gets quite the evil little smirk on her face.
Whatever it is that she's planning is going to have to wait. We cut to the next day, and find Mini has taken her father's advice. She makes her way through the halls of College and runs into Deepak (who I would like to point out is still wearing his New Kids on the Block shirt). He asks her to meet him after classes at the steps.
Deepak
tries to make some conversation with Mini, but he's off to a rocky start. He is
puzzled at the idea of Rashmi possibly having an enemy that would kill her, but
Mini shuts down that discussion immediately. Deepak changes gears and says that
he's going back home for the upcoming holidays, and is expecting to get some
flak from his dad. Deepak wants to continue with his post graduate work, but his
father wants his help with the family business (whatever that is).
Mini couldn't look less interested if she tried. As Deepak drones on, a sudden gust of wind picks up with a loud whistling noise, and flips open the lid of the book at his feet. A sheet of paper flies out, and Deepak jumps up to chase it down. When he finally catches it and turns around, he sees that Mini has disappeared. The music revs up to let us know something wacky is going on, just in case we missed it.
Deepak trots up the steps and looks around some more. Seeing no one, he enters the building (and throws away the paper he went to catch! What was it? Prepare to live in disappointment, friends. We never learn what was on that seemingly crucial paper. Why am I making such a big deal out of it? No one can say... ) and begins searching the halls for Mini.
This
goes on for several minutes, with Deepak growing more and more anxious and
frantic. He finally finds her in a small theater room, sitting by herself on the
floor, hugging her knees. Deepak approaches her and calls her name, but they are
interrupted by a security guard that walks in. The guard tells them they need to
clear out, as the classes for the day are over. Suddenly Mini gets to her feet
and says that they were just talking, and are already on their way out. She
tells Deepak to come along with her, and she happily walks out of the room.
Deepak stands there once more looking confused as all get-out, and has no idea
what just happened.
Enough of that! We check in with Sharma at the plant. He calls home to tell Shalini that sudden plans came up, and he needs her to be ready to go out at 8pm that evening. Shalini is irritated by this, and says that Narayan has the night off, so what's she going to do with Bunty? Sharma says they have no choice, and she needs to be ready to do... whatever it is. Perhaps we'll find out in a minute.
