Aha,
Sharma's going to a party. He comes home and picks up Shalini, and leaves Bunty
in Mini's care. Mini tells Bunty that she's got a lot of schoolwork to do, so
she gives Bunty his coloring book and tells him that they'll play when she's
done with her work. Out in the car, Shalini tries to start a conversation about
a beautiful new house that has recently become available, and hints that they
should move. Sharma basically ignores all of this and keeps driving. Back at the
house, Bunty scribbles in his book for a little bit, then looks up at his aunt
Mini. Mini appears to be sitting motionless in her seat, staring straight ahead.
Bunty looks back down, scribbles some more, then checks on her again. No
changes. He calls out to her, and gets no reply.
A reverse angle shows Mini's face. She's got the Scary Eyes going, and is staring straight at us. Bunty rises to his unsteady feet (I'm telling you this kid is constantly inebriated) and wobbles over to the desk. He tells Mini that he is hungry, and asks if he might go take something to eat from the fridge. Mini slowly rotates her head to stare at Bunty. After slipping a quiet little smirk at him, she tells him to go do just that. Bunty staggers down the steps towards the kitchen, but is sidetracked along the way by the inescapable draw of the basement door. He pushes it open (CREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAK!) and stares glassy-eyed at the glorious contents hidden within.
Doing
the smart thing, Bunty starts thumping down the steps. The door creaks shut
behind him, then slams closed. Upstairs, Mini continues to stare at us and make
all of our eyes itch (please blink!). A few static shots of the rest of the
house reinforce the idea that no one else is home, and Bunty is basically on his
own in the cellar.
Some time passes, and we can hear Bunty sobbing in the basement. Eventually the Sharmas come home and notice the sound. They fling open the basement door (CREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAK!) and find Bunty curled up on the stairs near the top. Shalini quickly snatches him up and cradles him as Sharma asks where Mini is.
The
three of them go racing through the halls to reach Mini's room. They find her
lying on her bed with her headphones on. She's rocking out to some early 90's
pop music and doesn't notice the very pissed off parents that are calling her
name. After a few attempts to get her attention, Mini finally sees them and
takes off her headphones. Sharma tells her that while she's up here, Bunty's
been locked in the basement for who knows how long. Mini takes an interesting
approach to this news, and asks what he was doing down there in the first place.
That seems to me like it should be Sharma's question, but whatever.
Aha, Sharma does call her on that, and wants to know why she's asking him that question! He storms off saying that he thought she was a responsible girl. Mini appeals to Shalini, saying that she thought Bunty had gone to his room to play, and doesn't understand why he'd go into the cellar to begin with. Shalini takes a far more sympathetic approach and says that it's okay, these things happen. Sharma saw Bunty there and got scared, and that's how he reacted. She suggests that Mini go to sleep.
Later that evening, we see the Sharmas in bed. After some tossing and turning, Sharma sits up and hits the light. He puts his glasses on and goes to the kitchen. After taking a few slugs of water from the fridge, he notices the sound of a woman sobbing coming from the general direction of the staircase. He goes to investigate and ends up outside Mini's door. He lets himself in, and sees that she's not in her bed. The sound of someone going to the toilet comes from her bathroom, so he lightly taps on the door and calls her name. No response. He cautiously peeks around the corner and progresses further into the room. We must have been hearing the faucet, as the sound stops.
Sharma
comes back out of the bathroom into Mini's bedroom, and still sees no one. He is
genuinely confused now, and looks out into the hallway. Turning once more to
face the bedroom, he now sees Mini standing in the middle of the floor! She's
giving him The Stare and the music follows suit. Sharma moves over to her and
asks her what's wrong. Mini responds by grabbing his throat and strangling him!
They struggle for a few moments, and it looks like Sharma's losing his strength
when Mini suddenly flings him to the floor. She begins making some truly
disturbing sounds and goes through some kind of internal struggle to control
herself. With the sound of a harsh punch, Mini's head snaps violently to the
side, and she stiffly falls to the bed.
