Shalini
hears the commotion and bursts into the room. She sees Sharma sprawled on the
floor, propped up against the closet. He stares at the bed where Mini is passed
out. Shalini checks on Mini, and is unable to get a response out of her. This
transitions to the next day, where Sharma is describing the scene to a
psychiatrist. Shortly after the attack, a doctor was summoned to Mini's room to
check her out. At first, the doctor thinks she might have had an epileptic
seizure. The others aren't so sure, as there is no history of that in the
family, and she tried to kill people. Good point. As they discuss the
possibilities, Mini suddenly sits up in bed. She looks around with a panicked
face, and says that something is burning.
Mini launches herself from the bed and begins running around the house, looking for a fire. The family finally catches up to her downstairs near the television room and restrain her. Mini becomes more and more agitated and struggles against their grasp, but is ultimately unable to break it. She breaks down into tears and sobs against her mother's shoulder. Shalini takes her into the parents' bedroom and closes the door. The doctor turns to Sharma and suggests that now might be a good time to talk to a psychiatrist.
Which
is exactly what we're doing now! The professional that Sharma has been talking
with says that outbursts of the type that Mini has been having are often caused
by stress or weakness and might not necessarily be a permanent dangerous
condition. He also says that girls of Mini's age are prone to this kind of
thing. (I have to say that I didn't know that!)
Sharma asks about the burning scents that Mini seemed to be picking up. The psychiatrist says that those would just be olfactory hallucinations. He elaborates and says that he'll know more once he's had a chance to complete some tests on Mini.
Sharma then asks if during this time of testing and uncertainty is Mini any kind of threat to the safety of his family. The doctor says that she's not necessarily a danger to the rest of them, but follows that up by asking why Sharma's brought that up. Sharma then brings up the oddity concerning Rashmi's death, but the doctor tells him that this is a far-fetched idea, and that there's no reason to suspect Mini in Rashmi's murder. Hrmm. Sharma then finishes the story, and tells him about Mini's attack last night. That shuts the doctor up, and makes him look thoughtful.
We'll
have to pay him that penny for his thoughts later, as it's time to see what
Deepak is up to. He's in bed, trying to get some sleep. After zooming in on his
face, we hear a woman's voice calling his name. Eventually he stirs, and looks
at the foot of his bed. Much to his surprise, Rashmi is sitting there. Neat
trick, what with her being recently murdered. He hears someone begging him to
help them, and steady sobbing. However Rashmi's mouth isn't moving along with
the words he hears. The half of her face that was in shadow comes into the weak
light, only it's Mini's face. She's the one doing the crying and begging for
help! Eventually the side of the head that belongs to Rashmi fades into
darkness, leaving only Mini behind.
In the spirit of "always leave them wanting more," we end the scene here and go to Mini's first therapy session. The doctor is seated directly across from Mini, and asks her to say her full name. They go through some other basic questions, about her courses in College and how she is doing there. Things seem to be progressing normally and Mini is very sharp and even funny in her replies to his questions. He steers the questioning towards Mini's social life and her interaction with her friends. He then bluntly asks her why she killed her friend Rashmi. Mini isn't phased by this at all, and just ask him how he knew she did that.
At this, Mini's parents look shocked and gasp in surprise. The doctor looks a little alarmed but doesn't waver in his gaze. Mini asks him again how he knows this, and the doctor replies that someone told him about it. He then says that she still hasn't answered his question. Mini looks coy for a bit, then asks "why did she hit me?"
The
doctor has no idea what she's talking about, and says so. Mini then starts
curling herself up, giggles briefly, and says nothing more. The doctor asks her
a few more times who hit her, but Mini quietly begins singing "Jack and Jill
went up the hill..." (you know the rest). This is all too much for Shalini, and
she quickly leaves the room while softly sobbing.
Outside in the hallway, Narayan comes over to her and says that the servant next door said there was a murder in this house a few years ago. The older lady that lives next door knows all about what happened. He thinks that it would do Shalini some good to meet with her and get the whole story. He's sure that this is all due to a supernatural force, and they need the facts.
