Shalini's
car pulls up to what looked to me like some sort of ruins. Sarge tells her and
Deepak to wait in the car, then gets out and goes for a walk around the area.
This goes on for a minute or two before Sarge enters a darkened room. On the
floor sits another man who is in touch with all of this supernatural stuff. We
get a look at his face, and his whole right eye is covered by a really nasty
looking scar.
Sarge approaches him with respect, letting us all know that this is not someone to be trifled with. With an air of apprehension and pleading, Sarge takes a seat across from the man on the floor, and folds his hands in prayer.
Back at the hospital things are not going well. Mini is flipping out and giving the staff a hard time. They finally have to give her a shot of the good stuff to knock her out, and she goes limp on the mattress.
Back
at Scarface's place a fire spontaneously bursts into flame between the two men,
and Sarge intuits that he's meant to take an object from this fire. With a
shaking hand, he extends his arm and places his hand directly into the flames,
and slowly grasps at something. When he pulls his hand out, it has not been
burned, and he now holds a smoking lump of ... something in his palm.
On the other side of this situation, we see the psychiatrist pulling up to the Sharma house, presumably to drop off Mini. We see all of this from the asthmatic point of view of what we now know to be Grandma, watching from the Scary Window.
Mini is led up to her room and put to bed. As the men try to leave the room, Mini reaches up and takes her father's wrist in her hand. She tearfully asks him what has happened to her, but he assures her that everything will be all right soon. She accepts this and releases him. Doc tells Sharma that she'll sleep soon, as she's recently been given an additional sedative.
Outside,
Sharma asks Narayan where Shalini has gone. He explains that she went off to the
nearby village with "a man who looks like a shaman" for the sake of Mini. Sharma
is incensed by this and calls her little methods of curing Mini a load of
nonsense. Doc tells him to calm down. She's not going to do any harm, and if it
also gives Shalini peace of mind, then there's no harm in it at all.
The phone rings and the call is for Sharma. He takes the call, and quickly learns that there has been a fatal accident at the plant (see, I told you we'd come back to that). He's got to get down there right away to take care of the situation. Unfortunately Shalini's out with the car, and he's stuck. Doc tells him to take his car, and he'll wait at the house for Shalini and the others to return.
Sharma hurries out to the car and pulls out of the driveway. Literally two seconds later, Shalini and the others pull into the driveway! They walk into the house and are startled to find the doctor there instead of Sharma. Doc watches as their little group heads down into the basement, and has a look of "oh isn't that cute?" when he sees Sarge open his palm with the briquette and mutter a prayer. Apparently the briquette is a detector of sorts, and it leads Sarge around the basement for a while. Finally he stops, and points to the floor. He tells Deepak to dig there.
Deepak starts pounding on the stone floor with a pick-axe. He makes slow and steady strikes, and soon the stone starts to break. Shalini and Sarge stand by and pray quietly as Doc checks in on Mini upstairs. Several other shots show us the rest of the family as the ringing sound of Deepak's strikes echo through the house. Eventually he breaks through into a rather large tunnel that is running beneath the house!
Grandma
watches the house intently from the Scary Window, and can just tell that there's
something unpleasant going on across the street. She frantically runs her hands
over her prayer beads and utters chant after chant for protection. In the
cellar, Deepak and Sarge prepare to enter the tunnel and see what's going on
down there. They don't have to go far to see what they're after. As they round a
corner, there in the darkness sits the woman we saw in the flashbacks of what
happened in the house a few years back! She stares at them with a look of "Oh
now you've gone and done it" as the men are rooted to the spot.
Upstairs, Doc looks in on Mini again. She's sleeping soundly and hasn't been bothered by the noise of Deepak's digging. As he looks on, the power goes out and the whole house is plunged into darkness that is oddly dark for it being in the middle of the afternoon.
