We
see the three intrepid investigators waiting as the clerk at the gun shop checks
his ledgers for the information of the previous owner. Sure enough, the gun was
sold from this store, and had been brought in for servicing every six months
afterwards. However, for the last year and a half, it had not been seen. Priya
asks who it belonged to, and amazingly the guy tells her. She's not a cop or a
reporter. Oh well. Anyway, we find out it belonged to a retired army colonel.
Col. Arjun Malik to be precise! Oh and to be extra helpful, they also get Col.
Malik's address from the clerk.
That night, we cut to a large fancy house. The ringing phone we hear is answered by a servant. He goes out to the patio where Malik is playing a violin and enjoying the evening. He goes in to take the call, and introduces himself like a robot. Seriously. It's Sanjana on the line, and the first words out of her mouth are (in English), "You murderer! Your time is up!" Malik is not happy with how he's being spoken to, so he asks what the hell she's talking about. She continues by saying that she's found the gun he used to murder an innocent person, then she lists off the model and serial number.
Malik
is shocked to hear this, and he drops his violin. He tells her that he doesn't
have time for this nonsense, and starts to hang up the phone. Sanjana yells for
him to wait, and says that what he did has made her life, and the life of her
husband, miserable. She tells him that she wants to meet with him to find out
what happened. He asks what will happen if he refuses to see her. Sanjana tells
him that she'll turn the gun over to the police and tell them as much as she
knows. This is a bit of a bluff, since Sanjana really doesn't know anything more
than what she's said, but he falls for it. Malik agrees to see her the following
day at eleven.
No point in waiting, so the movie cuts ahead to the agreed meeting time. We get a better look at the lush grounds keeping at the house in the daylight, and he's got a nice place! No time to admire the scenery though, and we go right inside to the meeting. Malik asks them where they found the gun, and under what circumstances. Agni shouts back at him that he wants to know why Malik killed the girl, and under what circumstances! Redundant, I know. Malik asks why they think he'd do something that horrible, and Sanjana comes out of nowhere into a huge rage. She accuses him of using the innocent girl to satisfy his lust, then once he was tired of her he killed her.
Malik
then drops a pretty hefty bombshell - he asks how a father could do something
that vile to his own daughter! They all stand in shocked silence for a moment
before Malik continues his explanation. He says that his daughter was mentally
ill, and had been committed to an asylum on several occasions. She was quite an
escape artist though, and always managed to get out. The last time, she locked
him in his own bedroom. When he managed to get out, he noticed she was gone and
had taken his gun with her. He looked everywhere, filed a report with the
police, and took out ads in the papers to locate her, but he never did. He
hadn't had any clues at all until they called him about his gun.
That night they convene at the library to discuss what they've uncovered so far. Priya spells it all out for us: the daughter goes missing, gets killed somehow, and is now manipulating events to get Sanjana to come to Ooty and reveal herself to her. Priya can't figure out why Sanjana, and why bother doing this at all? Agni tells them that they no longer have to go to find the daughter. Since they know so much about her now, they can summon her to them using a book of ancient rites that he has stashed away.
He
gives Sanjana a grave warning. He says that this is dangerous stuff they're
playing with here. The summoning will only work if she is alone, and all she can
do is summon the spirit. She can't make it leave. Priya asks what happens in
that case, and Agni says that Sanjana will suffer the same fate as Nisha did.
Priya looks horrified at this possibility, but Sanjana won't be talked out of it. She says that she has already decided what she's going to do. She takes the book and says that she needs to know what this spirit has to do with her, and why she's causing so much trouble.
A short montage shows Sanjana going home and settling down in front of a lit fireplace and preparing to look inside the book. We hear a voiceover from Agni explaining the techniques she'll need to read it, and how to perform the ritual properly.
