Agni
says that this must be an evil spirit at work. The cops look at each other with
a mix of "oh come on!" and "oh no what do we do!?" on their faces. Agni goes on
to explain that such spirits draw their strength from places like this - where
an accident may have happened, or a terrible act or sin might have occurred. By
coming there, the kids have awakened a slumbering spirit. As he says this, a CG
bird begins squawking and swoops in low towards the group of men. They all duck
to get out of the flight path, and it disappears into the mist.
The men slowly rise from the ground, and stare into the fog where the bird disappeared. This silence continues for several seconds, with all of them straining to see anything in the distance. The silence is broken by the loud ringing of Rohit's cell phone, causing all of the men to jump. Rohit answers it, and his friend Manoj tells him that "Nisha's looking bad. She left us. She died man!" (Most of this was in English, and ranks up there on my list of Least Sensitive Ways to Announce a Death). Rohit is stunned, and turns away from the others.
Agni
says that this is only the beginning. He somehow knows that the spirit hasn't
achieved the final goal, and that it's going to get worse before it gets better.
The cops ask him how to stop a vengeful spirit, and just who is it anyway? Agni
tells them that they'll not be able to stop it until they unravel the secret
behind the fell deed that slew the spirit's body. He rambles on for a minute,
more or less repeating that last thought. He does promise that this is going to
happen again. It's only a matter of who is tapped by the spirit next.
As he wraps up his scary whispered speech, we cut to a shot of a large city's skyline at night. Ominous thunderclouds are hanging overhead, and some cartoon lightning bolts are flashing around in a dangerous fashion. This leads us into the opening credits, as well as our first musical number, "Shanti Shanti."

There's quite a bit of exposition going on during this song. We meet Sanjana and Aditya, as well as get a look at how things seem to be a little strained between them. Despite the music and dancing and lots of friends, Sanjana is clearly not enjoying herself. She makes several attempts to get Aditya to break away from the people he's talking to so he can pay some attention to her. Each time he's pulled back by someone else. Sanjana frantically demands a glass of water from the bartender, and uses it to swallow some pills.
Having
done this, she marches into the group again, and forcefully demands Aditya
to come out of the dance hall and talk to her. After an awkward glance at
the people he was speaking to, he goes out into the lobby of the building.
He asks Sanjana what kind of stunt she thinks she's pulling.
Sanjana says that she hardly even feels like his wife anymore. For the last three hours, he has ignored her while he was having fun with the guys. Aditya reminds her that this is a party for his company, and those people that he's "having fun with," are actually a delegation of people from Hong Kong that he is hosting. He tells her that this is very important, and angrily asks if he might be permitted to go back to them. He says that in addition to "listening to her crap," he also has to run his business.
Sanjana gives him a "so that's how it's going to be?" look, then tells him that's fine - he can run his business whether or not his family survives. She takes his car keys from his pocket and tearfully storms out of the room.
