After
the ever-popular driving to the airport montage, the group arrives to find Gehna
is already waiting for them. They exchange a strangely
large number of greetings before Gehna informs them that there is the
classic good news/bad news thing going on. The good news is that Gehna was able
to get a big discount on the airfare! The bad news is that only two people will
be able to fly today, and the rest are two days later. The two lucky passengers
(Mahek and Suraj, natually) head off for the gate just as Rocky shows up. He's
all set to go when Rajat explains things to him. He also adds "Suraj plus Mahek
minus Rocky equals Problem."
There's a confusing slip-up in the subtitles here, as they say that "Suraj and I" (this is Gehna speaking) will be going now. If one listens closely she actually says "Suraj and Mahek." I was confused as all heck here when a moment later Mahek and Suraj walk off and I just read that it was supposed to be Gehna. Ah well. Wouldn't be one of these articles if I didn't get turned around by the subtitles at least once!
Rocky looks dejected as he watches Mahek walk off with Suraj, and they smile and wave happily back at the group. A typical airplane takeoff and landing bit follows, and our two potential lovebirds leave the airport and drive around in a taxi as the panoramic skyline of Bangkok fills the screen. That night, Mahek calls her mom to let her know that she's arrived. A little plot point crops up when her mother asks her who she's there with. Mahek lies and says that she's with Gehna, then falsely claims that the line is bad and she'll call her back from the hotel (she's currently on a pay phone). Suraj catches her saying she's with Gehna and gets a little raised eyebrow going, but doesn't say anything.
Back
at the river/lake scene, the cops have located a body! They dredge up the
corpse, and find that it is indeed wearing the cloak and mask of the Joker. When
they remove the mask, they see that it is Atul! (The missing bespectacled
Penthouse reader.) Well I guess that's "Case Closed," right? We'll see. Back at
Mahek's house, Mom is out back painting a picture of the mountains. She goes
about her business, getting brushes and doing whatever it is painters do. She
goes into the house to get something, and when she comes out she notices that
someone has altered her painting while she was away! She looks at the canvas
with horror and confusion as she sees that the interloper has painted a replica
of the Joker's mask on top of all of her other work! She turns to look into the
face of the Joker, who is not at all dead, and instead is ready to stab Mom. So
he does! We see a large gout of blood spurt onto the painting, then watch as it
runs down and drips from the bottom of the frame.
After
the Interval card, we cut to the police department. The lab has actually done
some forensics work! The autopsy on Atul has come in, and it turns out he died
of strangulation, not drowning. Therefore it's unlikely that he was the killer.
Instead it seems that the killer dressed Atul in his clothes, then dumped the
body so the police would think they've solved the case and stop looking for him.
Kamat says they need to inform Mahek immediately, but Rathore says she's on
vacation. They agree to go and see her Mom to find out her contact information.
When they arrive at the house, no one answers the door to let them in. Taking a look around, they see the canvas she had been working on set up in the yard. They can't help but notice the gigantic bloodstain on it, and begin to search around a little more. They follow a bloody trail to a little ledge, and look down to see Mom sprawled out on the grass below.
Back
in Bangkok Mahek is out walking through a crowded market area. She sees a woman
doing Tarot card readings near the street so she checks it out. She takes a seat
and draws some cards as instructed. When she lays them out, the woman doing the
reading begins to freak out. She starts shouting in Thai but Mahek doesn't
understand her. Finally the woman switches to English and says "danger,
dangerous, try to kill you!" Mahek stumbles backwards and runs across the street
where she bumps into Suraj.
Suraj can see she's agitated, and asks what happened. She tells him about the Tarot cards, and he scoffs at how Mahek believes anything anyone tells her.
