We
cut to the next morning. Tara comes out of the house to see the entire Mehta
clan waiting in the yard. Jagmo steps forward and introduces himself as the
eldest brother of the family, as well as Manav's father. He apologizes for
Manav's behavior the other day. Tara is astonished that they would come and do
all this. As a gesture of goodwill, Jagmo presents Tara with a statue of
Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of the arts and knowledge.
Tara
is moved by this gesture and welcomes the whole family. As introductions are
being made, Manav starts to wander around the school grounds. He notices his red
scarf he lost in the market hanging in the branches of a tree. Moving along, he
sees a yoga class being led by Mansi. She notices him watching her, and is
distracted. She is spared any embarrassment by being called over to meet the
visitors. We learn that she is Tara's only daughter, and is still single. Yes,
this might be important later on.
Jagmo invites Tara to come to a party he is hosting that night to meet some of his important friends from Delhi. Tara nervously agrees. We waste no time getting to the shindig, so we have Tara being introduced to various powerful businessmen, including some in broadcasting.
As
the grown-ups talk shop, we see Mansi standing around feeling a little out of
place. Manav sees her being teased by some children and moves in to talk with
her. After a quick chat we learn that Mansi has no friends other than her
family, and seems a bit lonely. Manav introduces her to Brownie, and hands him
to her while he goes off to find his grandmother so they can meet. While Manav
is away, some of the women from the Mehta family start giving Mansi some lip.
They ask her if she's Tara's daughter, and remark how she's made friends with
the dogs already. After a few more condescending remarks, Manav comes back to
take Mansi away for a bit. The elder sister watches them go with a disapproving
glare, and comments on how he's very eager to spend time with this girl.
Several other little snips happen here and there. We see Tara get an invitation to come and visit the Mehtas in Mumbai, then it's back to the lovebirds. In the way of making conversation, Manav asks if he can get some yoga lessons from Mansi. She agrees, then asks for a favor of her own. She tells Manav that she didn't want to come to the party - she's missing the wedding of a friend of hers. She asks if he will take her there. Mansi's friends are delighted to see her arrive, and demand that she sing them a song. With a little coaxing she agrees, and we have "Ishq Bina Kya," our next musical number.

This song is a little interesting. As they're doing their dancing and so forth, the first really blatant product placement I've seen in a Bollywood movie takes place. A big deal is made out of Manav and Mansi drinking out of the same bottle of Coke. Lots of close-ups and good clear looks at the label on the bottle. Just thought that was odd.
