Later
the same day, we see Jhil coming home from work. She and Radz make some small
talk about their day as they get their things dropped off. Jhil asks Radz if
she's seen Rohan since the two seconds they walked in the door, and Radz says
she hasn't. She suggests that Jhil check Rohan's room. Jhil makes a quick tour
of the house, and gets visibly nervous when room after room yields no Rohan. She
makes her way to the yard, and on a hunch she checks the tool shed. Inside, she
finds Rohan sitting on the floor, facing a wooden box. Relieved to have found
him, she tells him not to come out here alone again. Rohan calmly tells her that
he isn't alone. Jhil playfully asks him who else is with him, and Rohan
mysteriously tells her that others live there as well.
Jhil is clearly creeped out for a second, and she takes a quick look around the shed. Seeing nothing, she tells Rohan that they'll be quiet, and leave the other people out here in the shed while they go inside. As they leave the shed, we get another round of DCL and a snarl added for good measure. The screen goes completely black as we cut forward a few hours to that evening. We see the house from outside, when all of the lights go out at once. Inside, the family starts lighting candles and talking about how the power used to go out all the time at the old house.
Rohan
asks what electricity is. Radz goes through some examples of all the things in
the house that use it to work, like the lights, the fans, and so on. Rohan asks
why they can't see it if it's in all of those things in their house. Radz asks
him if he's feeling hungry, which he is. She asks him if he can see his hunger,
and he says that he cannot. Jhil explains that just because we can't see some
things, doesn't mean they don't exist. So also adds the corollary that sometimes
we also see things that do not exist. They have a little giggle at this, as
Virag joins them at the table.
Jhil asks him if he found anything wrong with the fuse box. Virag says that it all looked okay to him, and he thinks the outage might be affecting the whole area. Some of the windows begin blowing around in the wind, causing a little tension among the family. Jhil bends down to get something that was knocked over by one of the windows, and is startled when she straightens up again. She sees a fairly grim looking bald man standing not two feet away from her. She gasps for breath and looks again, and confirms that he is still there. Suddenly the power comes back on, throwing the room into glaring light. After a quick blink and adjustment, Jhil looks for the man again but he has vanished. Virag asks her what happened, but we cut away before we hear her explanation.
Later
that evening, Virag and Jhil are alone in their room. It seems Jhil has told
Virag the whole tale, as he is trying to reassure her that sometimes we see some
weird stuff that isn't really there. She repeats her tale, and even though she
knows it was all in her head, she can't get past how real the man looked. She
looks down to where Virag was lying on the bed, but he is no longer there.
Beginning to feel a bit weird, Jhil starts looking all over the downstairs of
the house for Virag. After a minute or so of this, Jhil is really starting to
panic. She is grabbed in the darkness by a hand, but it is only Virag. He tells
her how silly she's being, and that this is all something in her head. Jhil is
very angry at him for his little prank, and slaps his arm. Virag picks her up
and carries her to the bedroom to rub her shoulders, and we cut outside again.
The
rest of the night passes without incident, so we move along to the next day. We
find Radz waiting in the car and checking her text messages on her cell phone.
There's a surprisingly mushy note from someone called "Molly" that gives Radz
the googly eyes, so I'm thinking this might be an alias for Murli. Virag
reassures Jhil that he'll keep a closer watch on Rohan today, and that he will
be a good boy. Rohan will, that is. Satisfied that everything is in order, the
ladies head into town again. Radz tells Jhil (with a mischievous look in her
eyes) that there is a late-night study group with her friend Molly that evening,
and she will be late in getting home. Jhil says that's fine, and they continue
on their way. The muddy-legged man sees them coming this time, and jumps out
into the road after their car, screaming for them to stop. They don't, and
actually speed away from him as he rants about how they will all die. Jhil
decides that he's crazy, and puts as much distance as she can between the car
and the raving lunatic.
