Looks
like the Mittal's schedule was clear, since we immediately jump cut to the
meeting. Vicky introduces the guys as his uncles. They whip up a story about how
they have a business in South Africa, and are only in town to visit for two
weeks. They would like to see Vicky's wedding while they are there. The family
seems to think that's going a little fast, and won't have time to prepare. Raju
takes this opportunity to butt in and suggest they wait four or five years until
Rinkie is a little older.
Vicky starts pushing some buttons that he knows will carry a little weight. He asks that they move the wedding up so that someone from his father's side could bless the union. This idea gives pause to the Mittal's, but they still need to think about it.
The
next day we see Rajesh loading up the car. Grandpa comes out to tell him that he
has a very good rapport with the business partner Rajesh is going to meet with,
so he'd better not mess it up. Raju comes out to tell everyone that he's
leaving. Rajesh is thrilled! That is until he learns that Raju is leaving on the
same trip he's going on.
We actually learn a little about some of the business the Mittal's are involved in. They sell cars manufactured by a parent company in Europe. However, sales are down and they want to revoke the Mittal's branch of the company. Rajesh protests, but his arguments fall on deaf ears. Raju interrupts, and tells the board like it is. The cars they are providing are not good. Practically no efficiency, no features, and they're just plain ugly. The few cars they have sold are based purely on the Mittal's reputation.
The president looks shocked, and takes Raju aside to speak privately with him. Rajesh is sure that these comments have ruined his company and sneaks off after them. Of course, the president was actually impressed that someone would be so blunt and honest with him, and offers to hire Raju for any salary he wants. Raju thanks him, but tells him that he could not leave Rajesh's side for any reason. He does ask that Rajesh be able to keep the company, and his request is granted - "only because he has you." Rajesh overhears all this from a short distance away and looks absolutely stunned. As Raju heads back to the main conference area, he sees that Rajesh was hiding. He asks why he does everything in a sneaky manner. Conducting business, loving his abandoned son... Raju promises that no matter what happens he will not desert him. Rajesh actually gets a little smile on his face at this news.
The readers respond! Our friend Norjahan writes in to tell us:
"In Yeh Hai Jalwa, there was a scene where Salman Khan and Rishi Kapoor are in a meeting with some company's president in Europe. The president is actually one of Bollywood's greatest legends, Shammi Kapoor. His brother, Raj Kapoor (also equally legendary) is Rishi Kapoor's father."
I like little details like this, so if anyone else spots a cameo or other interesting fact, please send them in!
That
night it's time to celebrate the good news at the hotel's bar. Rajesh has
already had a few by the time we join them, and Raju is attempting to wrangle
him under control. Rajesh tells him that he has won over his heart, and will
give him anything he asks for. Rajesh realizes what that would be, so he goes
over to the middle of the bar and begins giving a speech to everyone about how
he is Raju's dad, and how poorly he treated him and his mother. Raju points out
to him that he's speaking Hindi in an English restaurant, so he tries again in
English. He tells them all the drinks are on him, and everyone should enjoy
themselves. This, they promptly do. Rajesh is so elated he starts his own
rendition of "Carbon Copy" and gets the whole place involved.
